Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday demanded that the Telangana government issue Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) or Family Register Certificates to eligible voters during the ongoing Telangana SIR. He raised the demand during a meeting with Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju.
Owaisi met the Chief Secretary along with Telangana Minority Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) president and vice-chairman Faheem Qureshi. Meanwhile, he urged the state government to issue the certificates under Article 162 to help eligible electors complete the Special Intensive Revision process.
Telangana SIR: Owaisi cites state databases
In a post on X, Owaisi said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy should approve the proposal. Further, he said PRCs would help poor voters secure a place in the final electoral roll. He added that the move would spare them unnecessary hardship.
The Hyderabad MP cited Karnataka’s system of issuing PRCs through a Government Order under the Karnataka Sakala Services Act, 2011. He also said Telangana already possessed several authentic databases. These included the Samagra Kutumba Survey, the 2024 and 2025 Socio-Economic and Caste Surveys, records under the Bhu Bharati Act, the Food Security Card database, municipal tax records and school records.
Owaisi expressed hope that the government would take a positive decision in the interests of poor people, minorities, Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Additionally, he recalled making the same demand on July 6. He had then warned that many poor residents lacked the required documents and risked exclusion from the electoral roll.
The AIMIM chief questioned what prevented the government from issuing PRCs. He said the ruling Congress should act before the publication of the final voters’ list instead of expressing concern later. Owaisi added that he had already raised the issue with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. Finally, he said he was also seeking an appointment with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
