Hyderabad: Telangana minority welfare received its highest-ever budgetary allocation of ₹2,893.26 crore for 2026–27, Minister Mohammed Azharuddin said on Monday. He said the government had substantially increased funding for welfare schemes covering minority communities.
The Minority Welfare and Public Enterprises Minister disclosed the figures while answering questions from Members of the Legislative Council. The questions concerned the release and utilisation of funds under various minority welfare programmes.
Azharuddin said the government had already provided detailed information on the schemes to the House in writing. For 2024–25, the government allocated ₹2,256 crore towards minority welfare schemes. Of this amount, it released ₹2,122.74 crore, while expenditure stood at ₹961.54 crore.
Similarly, the allocation increased to ₹2,844 crore during 2025–26. The government released ₹2,317.65 crore and utilised ₹1,010.63 crore during the period, according to the minister.
Telangana minority welfare allocations not based only on population
Azharuddin said minorities accounted for 14.27% of Telangana’s total population, according to the 2011 Census. However, he clarified that the government did not allocate Telangana minority welfare funds strictly according to the community’s share of the population.
Instead, the government determined allocations separately for individual schemes. It considered overall budget availability, programme requirements and the implementation needs of various minority welfare initiatives.
The minister made the clarification while responding to a question on whether allocations and expenditure matched the minority population percentage.
Meanwhile, Azharuddin said the government had continued to raise its budgetary provisions for minority welfare programmes. He cited the ₹2,893.26 crore scheme budget for 2026–27 as the highest allocation made for minority welfare in Telangana.
Telangana minority welfare programmes to get continued support
Azharuddin said the government remained committed to strengthening welfare and development programmes for minority communities.
Furthermore, he assured the Legislative Council that the government would focus on effective utilisation of the allocated funds. The programmes were aimed at supporting the socio-economic and educational advancement of minority communities.
The minister maintained that Telangana minority welfare allocations reflected scheme requirements and available budgetary resources rather than population share alone.
