Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission ordered a TGHRC assault probe into allegations that Prohibition and Excise personnel assaulted a 20-year-old youth in Nalgonda district.
The Commission, headed by Dr. Justice Shameem Akther, sought detailed reports on the allegations. It acted on a complaint filed by R. Shankar of Padamati Thanda village.
According to the complaint, Excise personnel allegedly intercepted R. Mahesh on August 24. At the time, he was travelling from Padamati Thanda towards Dugyala.
The personnel allegedly took Mahesh into custody and assaulted him while taking him to the Devarakonda Excise Station. The complaint further alleged that the Circle Inspector and other personnel continued the assault at the station.
Mahesh allegedly suffered injuries to his head, legs and ears. The complaint said the injuries caused hearing impairment and made it difficult for him to walk. He was undergoing medical treatment.
TGHRC assault probe seeks report from Nalgonda SP
Taking the allegations seriously, the Commission directed the Nalgonda Superintendent of Police to investigate the incident and submit a report.
Additionally, the Commission issued directions to the Superintendent of Government ENT Hospital at Koti in Hyderabad. It asked the superintendent to personally examine Mahesh and ensure that he received appropriate medical treatment.
The hospital superintendent was also directed to submit a report detailing Mahesh’s medical condition.
As part of the TGHRC assault probe, the Commission also ordered measures to protect those connected with the complaint. It directed authorities to ensure that Shankar, Mahesh and their family members faced no threats or pressure. The Commission specifically ordered protection against any coercion, intimidation or harassment linked to the case.
TGHRC assault probe reports due by September 24
The Commission sought reports from both the Nalgonda SP and the Government ENT Hospital superintendent by September 24, 2026.
The directions covered the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault as well as Mahesh’s medical condition and treatment.
The TGHRC assault probe followed allegations of injuries that reportedly affected the youth’s hearing and ability to walk. The Commission also sought to ensure his continued treatment while authorities examined the allegations against Excise personnel.
