Olympic Day Run promotes sporting spirit across Telangana: Vakiti Srihari

Hyderabad: Olympic Day Run should carry the Olympic spirit to every household, Telangana Sports and Youth Services Minister Vakiti Srihari said on Tuesday.

The minister took part in the Olympic Day Run-2026 organised by the Telangana Olympic Association at LB Stadium. Telangana Olympic Association president Jitender Reddy also attended the event. SATS chairman Shivasena Reddy and government adviser Venugopalachari were present as well.

Speaking on the occasion, Vakiti Srihari congratulated athletes who brought the Olympic torch from different parts of the city. He said organisers conduct the Olympic Day Run every year across the world. The event aims to spread Olympic values among people.

The minister said the Olympic Day Run promotes interest in sports. He added that it also helps build a healthy society. According to him, discipline plays a key role in shaping successful athletes.

Olympic Day Run highlights importance of discipline in sports

Vakiti Srihari said athletes need strong discipline to excel at national and international competitions. He added that sportspersons should maintain standards similar to those expected from military personnel.

Meanwhile, the minister said the government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had given high priority to sports during the past two and a half years. He said the administration had implemented several initiatives to strengthen the sporting ecosystem.

In addition, he said the government was working towards helping Telangana athletes win medals at the 2036 Olympics. Efforts were also underway to create more opportunities for emerging talent.

The minister said the government had successfully conducted two editions of the CM Cup. The initiative aimed to identify sporting talent in rural areas. He added that authorities were improving sports infrastructure across the state.

Finally, Vakiti Srihari called for wider promotion of the Olympic Day spirit. He said it would support a healthier society and a brighter future for students.
