Court awards life imprisonment in Balapur POCSO rape case

Hyderabad: A Fast Track Special Court at L.B. Nagar awarded life imprisonment to the main accused in the Balapur POCSO case involving a 16-year-old girl.

The court convicted three accused in the case registered by Balapur Police Station under IPC sections and the POCSO Act.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, she had separated from her husband and worked as a maid.

During that period, she left her children in the care of her mother at Abubakar Colony in Kothapet.

Balapur POCSO case leads to convictions

The court found main accused Mohammad Azeem, 25, guilty of repeatedly sexually assaulting the minor girl through force and threats.

The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 22,000.

The second accused, Mohammad Haleem, 31, threatened the victim and complainant, according to the prosecution.

The court also found him guilty of forcing the victim to consume abortifacient tablets that caused miscarriage.

The court sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000.

The third accused, Jameela Begum, 60, also participated in threatening the victim and forcing her to consume pregnancy tablets.

The court sentenced her to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000.

In addition, the court awarded compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim.
