Hyderabad: An armed gang allegedly robbed a house in Bhagatnagar, Karimnagar, and escaped with 54 tolas of gold, ₹25 lakh in cash and 30 tolas of silver ornaments after threatening a family with guns and knives. Police launched a search operation and formed multiple teams to trace the suspects.
The robbery took place between midnight and 1 am on Tuesday when Azmat Ali returned home after switching off the lights outside his residence. According to police, masked men confronted him, threatened him with weapons and entered the house.
The gang allegedly snatched the mobile phones of Azmat Ali’s wife and two daughters before tying up all four family members with towels. The suspects then entered a bedroom and stole the valuables from a cupboard before fleeing on two motorcycles parked outside the building.
Karimnagar house robbery investigation gathers pace
Police Commissioner Ghosh Alam inspected the crime scene, while Task Force, CCS and Clues Team personnel collected fingerprints and seized a dummy gun. One Town Circle Inspector Ramchandra Rao said police registered a case and started an investigation.
Investigators suspect that eight people participated in the robbery. Police said five suspects arrived on two motorcycles at a petrol pump near the Maneru Reservoir Lake outpost and later escaped towards Warangal through the bypass. The stolen motorcycles were reportedly abandoned near Huzurabad.
Police are also examining the possibility of insider involvement. Family members told investigators they suspect Azmat Ali’s son-in-law, who lives in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, because of an ongoing family dispute. Officers are verifying whether information about cash kept in the house was shared with the robbers.
The incident came less than three months after the PMJ Jewellery robbery in Karimnagar, which drew statewide attention. Police had arrested eight people in that case, but investigators had not yet traced the alleged masterminds or recovered the stolen gold and diamond jewellery.
