Hyderabad wins National Culinary Destination Award at India Today Tourism Awards 2026

Hyderabad: Hyderabad received the National Culinary Destination Award at the India Today Tourism Awards 2026 during the India Today Tourism Summit in Goa.

Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao accepted the award from Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, India Today Group Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Aroon Purie, Group Editorial Director Raj Chengappa and several tourism stakeholders attended the event.

The award recognised Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a leading culinary tourism destination in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Rao said the recognition reflects Hyderabad’s rich food heritage and Telangana’s rising prominence on the national tourism map.

He noted that Hyderabadi Biryani, Irani Chai and traditional Telangana cuisine continue to attract visitors from India and abroad.

Moreover, the minister said the honour reinforces Telangana’s position as a preferred destination known for its heritage, culture, hospitality and culinary traditions.

He said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is implementing several initiatives to promote tourism.

These initiatives focus on heritage destinations, eco-tourism circuits, spiritual tourism centres, adventure tourism locations and cultural attractions.

Meanwhile, Krishna Rao said Telangana is witnessing higher tourist footfalls and growing interest in multiple tourism segments.

These include heritage, eco, medical, spiritual and culinary tourism.

Furthermore, he said the government remains committed to strengthening tourism infrastructure and improving connectivity.

It is also working to enhance visitor experiences across destinations.

The minister noted that the recognition follows Hyderabad’s inclusion among the world’s leading food destinations.

He dedicated the award to the people of Telangana and stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Additionally, Krishna Rao said the honour would strengthen efforts to position Telangana among the country’s leading tourism destinations.

The India Today Tourism Awards recognise excellence in tourism promotion, destination development and visitor experience across India.

Telangana Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Gauthami also attended the event.
