Hyderabad gears up for grand Kite Festival from Jan 13 at rejuvenated lakes

Hyderabad: The city will host a grand Kite Festival from January 13, 2026, as part of Sankranthi celebrations, with rejuvenated lakes taking centre stage. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Monday chaired a review meeting, stating that the event will reflect Hyderabad’s culture and festive energy as envisioned by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The government will finalise a distinct name, branding, and logo to give the festival a unique identity. Rejuvenated lakes restored by HYDRA will serve as the primary venues, showcasing successful water body conservation across the city.

International events and vibrant locations planned

Tourism MD V. Kranti said the government will host an International Kite Festival from January 13 to 15 at Parade Grounds, with kite flyers participating from across India and abroad. The city outskirts will also feature a Hot Air Balloon Festival and a national Drone Festival.

HYDRA Chief A.V. Ranganath presented data on lake rejuvenation projects, highlighting improvements in storage, sustainability, and community access.

Departments mobilised for coordinated planning

The Chief Secretary instructed GHMC, HMDA, and HYDRA to appoint dedicated officers at each venue. Ministers will visit the sites from the first week of January to assess readiness.

Top officials, including Special Chief Secretary TR&B Vikas Raj, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, GHMC Commissioner Karnan, and district collectors, participated in the planning session. The event aims to create a festive landmark and foster community engagement across Hyderabad.
