HYDRAA chief directs officials to prepare lakes for kite festival

Hyderabad: HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Wednesday directed officials to ensure that lakes across the city are fully prepared in time for the kite festival during Sankranthi.

Ranganath said the State government traditionally organises the kite festival from January 13 to 15. He said the government had now decided to conduct the festival near lakes developed by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency as well.

During inspections on Wednesday, the HYDRAA chief reviewed development works at Nalla Cheruvu lakes in Tamidikunta and Kukatpally. He issued instructions to ensure that only treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants flowed into the lakes. He said officials must prevent the direct discharge of sewage at all costs.

Ranganath stressed the need to maintain a clean environment around STP locations. He suggested using government land adjoining the lakes to improve sanitation and overall upkeep. He also instructed officials to develop parks and enhance greenery around the water bodies.
