Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has assured full support for restoring the historic Katora Houz water body located inside the Golconda Fort complex.
HYDRAA Commissioner A V Ranganath said the agency would extend complete cooperation for conserving the nearly 450-year-old water structure. He said protecting historic water bodies was essential for the city’s ecological balance.
The Commissioner visited Katora Houz on Wednesday after stakeholders sought help to revive the site. Officials told him that the water body comes under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India.

During the visit, representatives of Nirmaan NGO explained the steps planned for restoration. Project supervisor Kalpana Ramesh said the team aimed to stop garbage dumping into the tank.
Accordingly, they proposed installing high fencing around the water body. They also planned to develop a walking pathway around the tank.
In addition, the team requested help to provide an alternative to a sewage pipeline passing through the water body. They said repeated hurdles were delaying development works.
Responding to the concerns, Ranganath assured full cooperation from HYDRAA. He said the agency would support fencing and other protection measures. He also stressed that saving historic water bodies required coordinated efforts.
The Commissioner asked Nirmaan NGO and archaeology officials to submit detailed reports on the planned works. He said HYDRAA would review the proposals and extend support accordingly.
