Hyderabad: Telangana Tribal Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar on Friday urged the Centre to enhance financial support for Tribal Welfare in the State. He submitted a detailed memorandum to Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in New Delhi.
Accompanied by Telangana’s Special Representative in New Delhi, A.P. Jitender Reddy, the Minister sought the release of pending Central assistance. Moreover, he requested additional funding for education, welfare programmes and infrastructure in tribal areas.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Adluri urged the Centre to expedite the release of pending funds. Further, he sought greater cooperation for implementing welfare programmes across Telangana.
Centre assures support for Telangana’s tribal welfare
Jual Oram assured the delegation that the Centre would sanction pending financial assistance for the Tribal Welfare Department. Meanwhile, he said the Union government was ready to support infrastructure projects in tribal areas. He said road construction would receive priority. He also asked the State government to submit detailed project proposals.
Adluri invited the Union Minister to hold a review meeting with Telangana Tribal Welfare officials in Hyderabad. In addition, Jual Oram accepted the invitation and agreed to participate.
The memorandum sought an additional ₹70 crore under Article 275(1). The Minister said Central allocations had declined sharply over the past two financial years. He also sought the release of ₹11.77 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY). The funds are meant for the development of 428 tribal-majority villages.
Adluri also requested the release of ₹452.05 crore towards the Centre’s share of pending Post-Matric Scholarship claims for 2024-25, 2025-26 and proposals submitted for 2026-27. Finally, he said the delay had affected thousands of tribal students pursuing higher education. He urged the Centre to release all pending assistance at the earliest.
