Jithender Reddy urges Centre to approve Hyderabad-Bengaluru defence corridor

Hyderabad: Telangana Special Representative A.P. Jithender Reddy urged the Centre to approve the proposed Hyderabad-Bengaluru defence corridor during a meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.

Jithender Reddy met Rajnath Singh at his official residence. Khammam MP R. Raghuram Reddy and Mahabubabad MP Balram Naik accompanied him.

During the meeting, Jithender Reddy reiterated Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s request for formal recognition of the Hyderabad-Bengaluru defence corridor.

He sought its notification as a Defence and Aerospace Corridor of the Government of India. The proposal would place it on par with the existing defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Jithender Reddy highlighted Hyderabad’s position as a major aerospace and defence hub. The city houses more than a dozen major defence public sector undertakings and strategic DRDO laboratories.

The city also has more than 1,500 aerospace and defence MSMEs. Telangana recorded 100 per cent growth in aerospace and defence exports during 2025-26, he said.

Hyderabad-Bengaluru defence corridor could boost indigenous manufacturing

Jithender Reddy said the proposed corridor would strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing. It would also accelerate research and development and support infrastructure creation and capacity building.

He said the initiative could contribute significantly to India’s defence preparedness. The proposal would also support the Make in India initiative, he added.

Rajnath Singh responded positively to the request. He assured Jithender Reddy that the proposal would receive due consideration.
