Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao demanded a recruitment notification for all vacant police posts in Telangana.
He alleged that the Congress government had failed to meet its employment promises and disappointed unemployed youth.
Referring to remarks by the Director General of Police, Harish Rao said the state has around 19,000 police vacancies.
He questioned the government’s reported plan to notify only 5,000 posts.
According to him, such a move would deny opportunities to many eligible candidates.
He also said nearly 2,000 of those posts could fall under the Hyderabad Commissionerate.
Vacant police posts should be filled through a single notification
Harish Rao argued that rural youth could lose out if the government recruits candidates for only a fraction of the vacancies.
Further, he said several categories of candidates may not receive adequate representation.
Meanwhile, he claimed that the previous BRS government had issued large recruitment notifications and filled nearly 48,000 police jobs.
He accused the Congress government of neglecting job recruitment.
Harish Rao also alleged that the lack of notifications during the past two-and-a-half years had affected thousands of aspirants.
Therefore, he demanded restoration of the earlier age limits for police recruitment.
According to him, the previous system allowed candidates up to 36 years for constable posts and 38 years for sub-inspector posts.
Further, he objected to changes in physical test requirements.
He urged the government to continue the earlier eligibility norms for recruitment events.
Additionally, Harish Rao criticised the collection of application fees.
He claimed the practice contradicted assurances made in the Congress election manifesto.
He also urged the government to provide access to police and government sports grounds for training.
According to him, many aspirants in Dilsukhnagar and Ashok Nagar lack adequate facilities for practice.
Harish Rao said the BRS would continue supporting unemployed youth.
He added that the party would press for notifications to fill all
police vacancies and the jobs promised in the Congress manifesto.
