Hyderabad: Food Safety officials conducted an inspection at Lulu Hypermarket after receiving a complaint. During the inspection, officials detected multiple violations at Lulu Hypermarket KPHB across kitchen, retail and butchering sections.
Officials found poor hygiene conditions in the in-house kitchen. They also identified leftover food stored in refrigerators and discarded it on the spot.
The inspection team noticed pests and decayed vegetables inside the kitchen area. In addition, officials detected near-expiry packed food articles carrying torn and misleading labels.
Lulu Hypermarket KPHB inspection finds infestations
In the retail section, officials found insect infestation in besan flour, atta and dal products. They also identified packed food articles carrying expired FSSAI licence details.
The inspection team further detected labelling and display violations. Several products lacked nutritional information, manufacturer addresses and FSSAI licence details.
In the butchering section, officials found drains clogged with meat waste. Authorities said the area emitted a pungent smell and posed a serious public health concern.
Food Safety officials seized or discarded nearly 150 kg of food articles, including sweets, oils, flour and pulses affected by infestation. They also collected food samples over suspicion of adulteration, excess artificial colour usage and pest infestation for laboratory analysis.
Officials advised consumers to remain alert while purchasing food products from supermarkets, bakeries, eateries and retail outlets.
