Hyderabad police seize restricted Oxytocin injections, one held

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police seized 173 restricted Oxytocin injections worth around Rs 50,000 during a raid conducted by the Commissioner’s Task Force, Shamshabad Zone Team. Police also apprehended one accused involved in the illegal procurement and sale of the injections.

The arrested accused was identified as Attheni Krishna, 45, who runs a dairy farm business. Police said two other accused, Khaled Ali alias Chatru Singh and Suresh, remain absconding.

Investigators found that the accused allegedly procured Oxytocin injections from Gujarat and sold them illegally to dairy farmers in Hyderabad at higher prices. According to police, Krishna purchased each bottle for Rs 50 and later sold them for Rs 250 to Rs 300.

Oxytocin injections used to increase milk production

Police said dairy operators illegally used the injections to force buffaloes to produce more milk. Officials warned that repeated use of Oxytocin injections could cause reproductive problems, uterine stress, mastitis and reduced fertility in animals.

Authorities also warned that Oxytocin residues could enter milk consumed by humans. According to police, regular consumption of such milk may lead to hormonal imbalance, early puberty in children and health complications for pregnant women.

The Task Force seized 173 bottles of Oxytocin injections weighing 43.250 litres in total. Officials later handed over the accused and seized material to Pahadishareef Police Station for further investigation.

Police said efforts were continuing to apprehend the remaining absconding accused in the case.
