DEO reviews SIR 2026, issues key directions to officials

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) R V Karnan on Monday reviewed the progress of SIR 2026 during a weekly meeting with representatives of recognised political parties. He also issued key directions to officials. The directions focused on voter awareness and the ongoing enumeration process.

The DEO reviewed house-to-house enumeration. He also assessed the collection and digitisation of Enumeration Forms. Meanwhile, he stressed the need for close coordination among Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and political parties. He said such coordination would help cover every eligible elector.

Representatives of recognised political parties raised concerns over voter awareness. They also flagged the availability of BLOs. Other issues included the collection of Enumeration Forms and digitisation centres. Further, Karnan directed Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to intensify voter awareness through Tom-Tom and SAT Auto publicity.

SIR 2026 review focuses on voter awareness

The DEO instructed BLOs and BLO Supervisors to respond promptly to citizens and political party representatives. Additionally, he directed officials to strictly follow the Election Commission of India guidelines throughout the enumeration process.

Karnan reiterated that officials should neither insist on nor collect any document with the Enumeration Form. He specifically said officials should not ask for Aadhaar cards.

He instructed all BLOs and BLO Supervisors to remain in their assigned field areas from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the entire enumeration period. Moreover, he directed EROs and AEROs to submit updated lists of BLOs, BLO Supervisors and designated centres for collection and digitisation at the weekly meetings with political parties.

The DEO invited suggestions from representatives of recognised political parties. Finally, he assured them that officials would address all genuine issues promptly. He said every action would comply with the Election Commission of India guidelines.
