Dasoju Sravan slams withholding of student certificates over fee reimbursement dues

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan urged the Telangana government to immediately release student certificates withheld by government, autonomous and university-affiliated colleges. He alleged that institutions were retaining original documents over pending fee reimbursement dues.

In an open letter addressed to Chief Minister and Education Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Sravan referred to Nizam College and other colleges. According to him, they had withheld transfer certificates, provisional certificates and mark memos of students who had completed their courses.

He alleged that the practice violated Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution. Further, he said it breached UGC regulations and directions issued by the High Court and the Supreme Court.

Sravan said colleges should pursue the government for pending fee reimbursement payments. Instead, they should not shift the burden onto students. He added that retaining original certificates and demanding payments from students was unlawful.

Student certificates release among BRS demands

On behalf of the BRS, Sravan demanded the unconditional release of all withheld original certificates. These include transfer certificates, provisional certificates and mark memos. Additionally, he said the directive should apply to government and autonomous colleges, including Nizam College.

He also sought disciplinary action against principals accused of collecting money from students unlawfully. Meanwhile, he urged the government to announce a clear schedule for clearing pending fee reimbursement dues.

Finally, Sravan called on the Education Department to establish a toll-free grievance number. He said the helpline should address complaints related to withheld student certificates.
