Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will review major irrigation projects during a two-day visit to the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district on June 4 and 5. The programme will focus on key water infrastructure works in Narayanpet and surrounding areas.
Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari announced the schedule at a media conference. Collector CH Priyanka and SP G. Vineeth also attended the briefing. According to him, the government was accelerating efforts to provide permanent irrigation and drinking water solutions in the region.
Srihari said the Congress government aimed to transform Narayanpet into a developed district. Moreover, he stated that the administration was addressing long-standing issues that had contributed to migration from the region.
The Chief Minister will conduct aerial surveys and hold review meetings with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Karnataka representatives. Meanwhile, the exercise will cover several major irrigation projects across the erstwhile Palamuru region.
Srihari said the government was implementing the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme with an estimated outlay of Rs 5,000 crore. The project aims to divert around 7.1 TMC of water from Bhoothpur. It will meet irrigation and drinking water needs in the region.
Irrigation projects to dominate Chief Minister’s review
The minister said the government would establish modern rehabilitation centres for affected families. The government has earmarked Rs 100 crore for the initiative. In addition, he said the Congress government had completed the long-pending Sangambanda works and supplied water to farmers.
Referring to interstate initiatives, Srihari said Telangana and Karnataka were moving ahead with plans to construct barrages in border areas. Furthermore, he added that the projects would benefit both states.
Officials prepared plans for a barrage with a storage capacity of 1.8 TMC in the Kolkur-Korthikonda region, Srihari said. Moreover, Telangana and Karnataka have agreed in principle to construct two barrage-cum-bridges on the Bhima River and one on the Krishna River.
Srihari also said the government had sanctioned Rs 175 crore for the Jangamreddypalli Lift Irrigation Scheme in Narva mandal. Consequently, the project is expected to provide irrigation facilities to nearly 7,500 acres across 13 villages.
On June 4, Revanth Reddy will inspect the Koilsagar Project and the Jangamreddypalli Lift Irrigation Scheme. He will also conduct aerial surveys of proposed barrage locations. In addition, he will review projects in the Jurala and Nadigadda regions.
The Chief Minister will stay overnight at Somasila. On June 5, he will inspect works under the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Furthermore, he will review pump houses, reservoirs and related infrastructure between Narlapur and Udandapur. Later, he will hold a comprehensive meeting with officials.
Finally, Srihari said the government intended to complete the projects within the stipulated timelines. He added that the administration would strengthen irrigation infrastructure across Narayanpet district.
