Hyderabad: A possible Konda Surekha action faced resistance within the Congress leadership after several senior leaders reportedly opposed harsh measures against the Telangana minister. They cautioned the party high command about potential political consequences if she was removed from the Cabinet.
According to the information available, two AICC general secretaries, two state ministers and a senior leader backed Surekha. They reportedly urged the Congress leadership to exercise caution before initiating any action against her.
Another AICC secretary also advised the leadership against taking stringent action. The leader reportedly warned that removing Surekha from the Cabinet could trigger political consequences for the party.
The leaders argued that Surekha could resign if the party removed her from the Cabinet. Consequently, such a resignation could lead to a by-election, they reportedly told the leadership.
Konda Surekha action concerns reach Congress high command
The leaders reportedly cautioned that a by-election could adversely affect the Congress in Telangana. Therefore, they advised the leadership to assess the political implications before proceeding with any Konda Surekha action.
Two state ministers also conveyed their views to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal. They reportedly requested the leadership to hold consultations with Surekha before taking a decision.
Meanwhile, concerns were also raised about possible opposition from the BC community if the party acted against Surekha. The Congress high command was reportedly reconsidering stringent action in view of these political concerns.
