Canada invites Telangana delegation to boost trade and infrastructure ties

Hyderabad: Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Chris Cooter, invited Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to lead a Telangana delegation to Canada to strengthen Canada Telangana trade and expand economic cooperation across key sectors.

Cooter met the Chief Minister at MCR HRD in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Both leaders discussed ways to deepen trade, investment and innovation partnerships between Canada and Telangana.

The meeting focused on opportunities in major infrastructure and urban development projects. These included the Musi River Development Project, Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion and the proposed Future City initiative.

Cooter highlighted the growing Canadian presence in Telangana. He referred to Firan Technology Group’s decision to establish a manufacturing facility and CIBC’s launch of a Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad.

He also noted CPP Investments’ strategic partnership with Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters. The Canadian investor has committed up to 1 billion Canadian dollars to the project.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy outlined Telangana’s achievements in information technology, life sciences, defence and aerospace. He also highlighted Hyderabad’s position as a preferred destination for Global Capability Centres of Fortune 500 companies.

Canada Telangana trade discussions expand to education and green economy

The Chief Minister said the government was committed to rejuvenating the Musi River as part of a broader plan to build an alternate economy along the riverfront. He also sought Canada’s support for Telangana’s solarisation programme and green economy initiatives.

Revanth Reddy said several leading international universities planned to establish campuses in Hyderabad. He proposed that Canadian universities jointly set up a multi-university campus in the city.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister invited Canadian companies, investors and academic institutions to participate in the second Telangana Global Investors Summit, which is scheduled for December. He said the summit would create fresh opportunities for investment and long-term partnerships.

Cooter praised Telangana’s development vision and its focus on employment generation. He said the state’s skilled talent pool offered significant opportunities for Canadian businesses.

The High Commissioner assured the state government of Canada’s support across multiple sectors. He also announced that a Canadian trade delegation would visit Telangana in the coming months to explore cooperation in energy, urbanisation, defence and aerospace.
