Adluri orders transparent Gurukul admissions, says no poor student should miss education

Hyderabad: Social Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar on Wednesday directed officials to ensure transparent and compassionate Gurukul admissions. He said no eligible student should lose educational opportunities because of administrative lapses.

The Minister conducted a surprise inspection of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) headquarters at DSS Bhavan. During the visit, he reviewed the admission process. He also interacted with parents and guardians who had travelled from different parts of the State.

Lakshman Kumar personally received representations from parents. He enquired about their financial difficulties and their children’s educational aspirations.

Several parents said allotment of seats in distant districts had increased their financial and travel burden. In response, the Minister asked officials to allot seats in nearby districts wherever possible within the existing guidelines.

Gurukul admissions should remain transparent and student-centric

During the review, Lakshman Kumar instructed Joint Secretary (Administration) Sakru Naik to ensure transparency, fairness and compassion in the seat allotment process. He said officials must examine every representation carefully. He added that deserving students should receive relief strictly according to the prescribed norms.

Further, the Minister directed officials to treat parents and guardians with courtesy. He asked them to provide clear information, counselling and timely guidance. He said visitors from remote villages should not face inconvenience or uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Lakshman Kumar expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of some officials. He said there was no room for negligence when the government was making significant investments in education and welfare for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other disadvantaged communities.

The Minister said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had given top priority to strengthening the Gurukul education system through higher funding and better infrastructure. He urged officials to work with responsibility, empathy and commitment.

Further, Lakshman Kumar said the government aimed to make Telangana’s Gurukul institutions among the country’s finest residential education models. He said the State was improving nutrition, infrastructure, residential facilities and coaching for competitive examinations. These measures would help underprivileged students realise their full potential.

Parents who met the Minister thanked him for hearing their grievances and responding promptly to their concerns. Concluding the visit, Lakshman Kumar said the government remained committed to ensuring that no poor student was forced to discontinue education.
