DGP reviews rollout of TMARS, anti-drug panels in educational institutions

Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand on Wednesday reviewed the progress of TMARS (Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau) and the proposed Telangana Anti-Drug and Safety Committees (TADASC) in educational institutions.

The DGP held two review meetings and said work on both initiatives had been underway for the past few months. He added that the projects were nearing implementation.

The proposed TMARS will standardise traffic management practices across Telangana. It will also strengthen road safety through highway patrolling, traffic signal maintenance, new signal installations, road signage and related infrastructure.

TMARS and TADASC to strengthen safety measures

Meanwhile, TADASC will expand the State’s anti-drug campaign to educational institutions. Educational institutions will play a key role in identifying and reporting suspicious behaviour among students to law enforcement agencies.

Further, students will submit affidavits declaring that they are not involved in drug abuse. Educational institutions will remain responsible for implementing the prescribed measures.

Each institution will appoint a Campus Safety Coordinator to work with students and police authorities. The committees will also address ragging, offences against the dignity of girl students and traffic awareness programmes.

C.V. Anand said protecting the younger generation from drugs was essential to winning the fight against narcotics. He stressed that educational institutions must actively participate in the campaign to make campuses safer.
