Wanaparthy public meeting cancelled for Harish Rao amid farmer protests

Hyderabad: Wanaparthy public meeting planned by senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao was cancelled by the Telangana government on Wednesday, officials said, citing administrative reasons.

The meeting was scheduled for April 9 in support of farmers protesting against the Gollapalli Reservoir project in Revally mandal. Authorities had earlier granted permission before withdrawing it ahead of the event.

Wanaparthy public meeting row linked to reservoir protests

Farmers in the Gollapalli area have continued protests for nearly 100 days, opposing the reservoir construction and raising concerns over its impact. The proposed meeting aimed to highlight these issues and mobilise support.

Reacting to the decision, BRS leader Singireddy Niranjan Reddy criticised the cancellation. He alleged that the move restricted opposition activity and limited public expression.

He said the party would approach the High Court seeking relief against the cancellation. The public meeting issue has since taken a political turn, with the matter expected to move into legal proceedings.
