Telangana aims to become strategic aerospace hub: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: Telangana aims to emerge as a strategic aerospace hub, said Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu.

He said the government is taking planned steps to align the sector with future industry needs. He spoke at a national conference organised by The Aeronautical Society of India in Hyderabad.

The minister stressed the need to build a strong aerospace ecosystem. He said it must adapt to global challenges and industry shifts.

Sridhar Babu said regions that integrate R&D, manufacturing and certification will lead globally. Accordingly, the state is building such an ecosystem.

He noted that aerospace now reflects a nation’s strategic strength. Earlier, countries like the US, Russia and Europe dominated the sector. Now, India is emerging as a key player.

Citing reports, he said India has a large pool of talent. However, less than 30 per cent of research converts into commercial output. Therefore, the state aims to bridge this gap.

Aerospace hub focus includes R&D, manufacturing and certification systems

He added that 74 per cent of global aerospace CEOs now prioritise supply chains and manufacturing strength. Demand for 42,000 new aircraft is expected over the next 20 years.

He said Hyderabad is positioning itself to capture this opportunity. The minister also stressed the need for domestic testing and certification facilities.

Currently, reliance on foreign systems increases costs. It also delays production by up to 24 months. He urged the Centre to support world-class facilities in Hyderabad.

He identified drones, reusable rockets and AI-based avionics as key technologies. In addition, 3D printing and advanced materials will shape the sector.

More than 1,500 MSMEs in Hyderabad already supply to global firms. Strong infrastructure and skilled talent continue to attract investments.

Sridhar Babu invited industry leaders and innovators to collaborate with the state. The event also saw participation from senior scientists and policymakers.
