Hyderabad: The Telangana Civil Supplies Department marked National Consumer Day 2025 with State Level celebrations and awareness programmes held across the state from December 19 to December 23.
Civil Supplies Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra, I.P.S., led the celebrations. He said the programmes aimed to educate citizens and students about their rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
At the same time, officials focused on explaining how digital platforms help resolve consumer disputes quickly and efficiently. Therefore, the department highlighted the role of digital justice in consumer protection.
Under the Commissioner’s directions, the Chief Rationing Officer organised the events with support from the District Civil Supplies Officer, Hyderabad, and Assistant Civil Supplies Officers. Meanwhile, the Telangana State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Legal Metrology officials, consumer organisations, and activists actively took part.
National Consumer Day 2025 student competitions and outreach
As part of the celebrations, the department conducted essay writing and elocution competitions at school and college levels. School students wrote on “Consumer Rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.” College students, however, spoke on the theme “Efficient and Speedy Disposal through Digital Justice.”
The competitions took place in Telugu, English, and Urdu. In total, 366 students joined the essay contest, while 76 students participated in elocution.
In addition, the department held awareness programmes at Babu Jagjivan Ram Degree College and the University College of Law, Osmania University. Experts there explained consumer rights, legal remedies, and digital dispute resolution.
Later, the celebrations concluded with a prize distribution ceremony at Civil Supplies Bhavan. The Commissioner of Civil Supplies, who also serves as Ex-Officio Principal Secretary to the Government, presided over the event.
Officials awarded cash prizes of ₹5,000, ₹3,000, and ₹2,000 along with certificates to 36 students who secured first, second, and third positions. The Commissioner congratulated the winners and encouraged them to promote consumer awareness further.
The department said the programme raised awareness on consumer rights, promoted digital justice, encouraged youth participation, and recognised student excellence.
