Telangana government forms committee to identify movement activists

Hyderabad: The Telangana government formed a special committee to identify Telangana movement activists and recognise their services and sacrifices during the statehood movement.

The General Administration Department issued GO Rt No. 679 on Friday following directions from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The government said several activists sacrificed their lives during the movement, while others suffered physical disabilities.

Many participants also faced criminal cases and imprisonment during the agitation.

Telangana movement activists committee headed by K Kesava Rao

Government adviser Dr K. Kesava Rao will serve as chairman of the committee.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC Prof Kodandaram, MLC and government whip Addanki Dayakar, former MLC S. Ramulu Naik and Mothe Shobhan Reddy were appointed as members.

The Political Secretary of the General Administration Department will function as the committee convener.

The committee will first prepare clear guidelines to identify Telangana movement activists.

Based on those norms, the committee will prepare a list of eligible participants.

It will also recommend the type of recognition, honours and facilities the government should provide to them.

The government authorised the committee to call officials, collect information and conduct meetings whenever necessary.

The panel can also consult other officials and individuals during the process.

The government directed the committee to submit its report at the earliest.

It also instructed all departments and secretaries to extend necessary cooperation to the committee.
