Keshavarao says justice for Telangana activists is government’s priority

Hyderabad: Government Advisor K. Keshavarao said justice for Telangana activists remains the primary objective of the Congress government and assured recognition for those who participated in the statehood movement.

He made the remarks after an all-party meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday. The meeting discussed measures to identify and honour activists associated with the Telangana movement.

The meeting took place under a committee chaired by Keshavarao and constituted by the state government to ensure recognition and respect for Telangana activists.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLCs Kodandaram and Addanki Dayakar, Ramulu Nayak and Shoban Reddy attended the discussions.

Justice for Telangana activists through identification process

Keshavarao said the government constituted the committee to identify activists who directly or indirectly contributed to the Telangana movement.

He said representatives of recognised political parties associated with the movement participated in the all-party meeting.

According to him, the committee sought suggestions and recommendations regarding the identification and recognition process.

Furthermore, he said the committee would hold consultations with student unions, advocates, doctors, journalists and others linked to the movement.

Keshavarao said the initiative would focus on identifying first-generation Telangana movement activists.

Justice for Telangana activists through wider consultations

Ponnam Prabhakar said the committee invited representatives from all political parties and allocated two members for each party.

Moreover, he said the committee would consult employees, students, journalists and lawyers to gather broader views.

The Minister said the government was committed to supporting those who suffered injuries or losses during the movement.

He added that the government would also recognise poets, artists and others who contributed to the formation of Telangana.

Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the committee would soon inaugurate its office at the Martyrs’ Memorial Stupam.

He said the government would accept suggestions from all stakeholders and receive representations through both online and offline platforms.

Justice for Telangana activists includes JAC consultations

MLC Kodandaram said many activists had sacrificed important years of their youth for the Telangana movement.

He noted that several Joint Action Committees represented movement activists and said the committee would meet all such groups.

Furthermore, Kodandaram said JACs representing universities would also participate in the consultation process.

He added that discussions with these organisations would help ensure wider representation and recognition of Telangana movement activists.
