Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA Sabita Indra Reddy on Saturday alleged that Telangana law and order had completely deteriorated under the Congress government, creating an atmosphere of fear.
Sabita levelled the allegations while speaking at a “mock Assembly” organised at Telangana Bhavan. The BRS held the programme after its MLAs were suspended from the ongoing Assembly session.
She contrasted the present situation with the tenure of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. Sabita claimed that the previous BRS government had effectively maintained law and order across the state.
She alleged that crimes against women and Dalits had increased under the Congress administration. Moreover, she questioned the government over what she described as the growing availability of ganja in Telangana. Sabita claimed the state had witnessed a sharp increase in crime. She also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for retaining the Home portfolio.
Telangana law and order questioned over police vacancies
Sabita alleged that thousands of vacancies in the Police Department remained unfilled. She questioned the government’s response to recent incidents involving women, Dalits and political leaders. The BRS MLA also accused police of obstructing opposition legislators. She demanded that the Chief Minister apologise over the alleged treatment of opposition MLAs.
Her remarks formed part of the BRS mock Assembly proceedings, which focused on the party’s criticism of the Congress government. The programme was held as a protest against the suspension of BRS legislators from the Assembly.
Meanwhile, BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav took on the role of Revanth Reddy during the mock proceedings. He responded sarcastically to Sabita’s allegations while portraying the Chief Minister.
Telangana law and order debate turns satirical
Talasani referred to cases registered against BRS leaders, the gold controversy and recent political disputes during his satirical response. He made a series of remarks while mimicking what the BRS portrayed as the Chief Minister’s style of functioning.
During the performance, Talasani sarcastically referred to “Hitler” as his role model. He said, as part of the satire, that he would govern in a similar manner. He also sarcastically claimed that permission for a protest at KCR’s residence had been granted in a democratic manner.
The exchange took place entirely as part of the mock Assembly organised by the opposition party. The BRS used the proceedings to raise its allegations over Telangana law and order and other issues concerning the Congress administration.
The party organised the mock session after its legislators were suspended from the ongoing Assembly proceedings. Sabita used the platform to target the government over crime, policing, ganja availability and vacancies in the Police Department.
