Hyderabad: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday questioned police action against BRS legislators after a sexual harassment case was registered following a scuffle at the State Assembly entrance.
Rama Rao strongly criticised the Telangana Police over the case registered against BRS MLAs and MLCs. He alleged that the legal action amounted to misuse of the police machinery. Targeting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the BRS leader called him the “cheap minister of Telangana”. He also described the cases against his party legislators as “rubbish cases”.
Rama Rao said the BRS would challenge the cases in court. Moreover, he accused the government of using the police machinery against opposition legislators following the incident at the Assembly.
Police action against BRS draws KTR challenge
Rama Rao also questioned Director General of Police C.V. Anand over the status of earlier allegations involving a former Miss England contestant. He referred to allegations that the former contestant had faced misbehaviour by Congress leaders during the Miss World events held in Hyderabad two years ago.
The BRS working president asked what action police had taken over those allegations. He also questioned whether the police would continue to shield those accused in the matter. Rama Rao tagged senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while raising the issue. He demanded accountability over the handling of the earlier allegations.
His remarks came after police registered the sexual harassment case against BRS legislators following the scuffle at the Assembly entrance. The BRS leader linked that police action against BRS legislators with his criticism of the handling of the previous allegations. He accused the authorities of adopting different approaches in the two matters.
Rama Rao maintained that his party would contest the latest cases through the legal process. He also continued his criticism of the Chief Minister and the Telangana Police over the action against BRS MLAs and MLCs.
