Hyderabad: Suspended BRS legislators staged a BRS mock Assembly at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, using impersonations and satire to target the Congress government. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi organised the symbolic proceedings after its legislators were suspended from the ongoing monsoon session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
During the political demonstration, BRS leaders assumed the roles of senior figures in the ruling establishment. They used the mock proceedings to criticise the state government and its handling of Assembly business.
Zaheerabad MLA Manik Rao occupied the Speaker’s chair during the session. Meanwhile, senior BRS leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav portrayed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Former minister Gangula Kamalakar played the role of Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy impersonated Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, senior leader T. Harish Rao and other party MLAs occupied seats as Opposition legislators.
BRS mock Assembly uses satire against government
During the BRS mock Assembly, former minister G. Jagadish Reddy raised critical questions from the Opposition benches. The BRS members portraying government ministers responded to his questions.
The enactments featured satirical portrayals and impersonations of Cabinet ministers. Moreover, the exchanges frequently drew laughter from those attending the symbolic session at Telangana Bhavan.
The BRS organised the programme following the suspension of its members from the Legislative Assembly. Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar had suspended the legislators for the remainder of the ongoing session.
The Speaker cited repeated disruptions to House proceedings while ordering the suspension of the BRS members. However, the BRS leadership disputed that reasoning. It alleged that the Congress government had deliberately orchestrated the suspension to prevent debates on major public issues.
Party leaders claimed the government wanted to avoid discussion on electoral guarantees that remained unfulfilled. They also accused the government of attempting to evade debate on pressing civic problems.
BRS mock Assembly follows suspension row
The BRS mock Assembly served as the party’s symbolic response to the suspension of its legislators. Senior party leaders participated in the exercise while portraying both Opposition and government roles.
Manik Rao presided over the proceedings in the Speaker’s role, while Talasani portrayed the Chief Minister. Gangula and Palla took on the roles of two state ministers. At the same time, K.T. Rama Rao, Harish Rao and other legislators remained in the Opposition benches during the mock proceedings.
The programme combined political criticism with satire as the suspended legislators continued their protest outside the Assembly. The BRS used the event to reiterate its allegation that its members had been prevented from raising public issues inside the House.
The satirical protest also drew attention in political circles across Telangana following the suspension controversy and the continuing confrontation between the BRS and Congress.
