Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA P. Sabita Indra Reddy on Friday alleged that women legislators faced severe harassment during the Telangana Assembly incident.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Sabita said the entire country had watched developments in Telangana over the previous four days. She made the remarks after BRS women MLAs met the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women.
The BRS legislators had also taken the matter to the Human Rights Commission and Women’s Commission, she said. Moreover, Sabita levelled allegations against police personnel over their conduct on the Assembly premises. According to the former minister, police had stopped BRS legislators from entering the Assembly while they wore black badges and T-shirts.
Telangana Assembly incident involved women MLAs: Sabita
Sabita alleged that male police personnel had manhandled women legislators during the Telangana Assembly incident. She claimed personnel pulled the sarees and hair of women MLAs and behaved in an unacceptable manner.
Describing the episode as “reminiscent of Dushyasana Parvam”, the BRS leader said the alleged incident had caused deep pain. She stressed that it had occurred within the Assembly premises.
Sabita also claimed that authorities had deployed nearly 500 police personnel to stop around 40 elected representatives from entering the House.
Furthermore, she alleged that several MLAs had sustained injuries during the confrontation. According to Sabita, BRS MLA Jagadish Reddy developed health complications after his blood pressure rose.
Sabita questions orders behind Telangana Assembly incident
The former minister questioned who had instructed the police to prevent BRS legislators from entering the Assembly. She sought accountability for the police action and the alleged treatment of women legislators.
Sabita also said the party had complained to the Director General of Police about the Telangana Assembly incident. However, she alleged that authorities had taken no action despite those complaints.
The BRS MLA reiterated that developments in Telangana during the previous four days had attracted attention across the country. She raised the allegations in Delhi after the BRS women legislators approached the National Commission for Women.
