Seed fairs from June 23 to 30 across 2,601 Rythu Vedikas in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will organise seed fairs from June 23 to 30 at 2,601 Rythu Vedikas across the state to provide farmers with quality seeds and guidance on crop selection.

The initiative aims to promote pulses, oilseeds, millets and vegetable cultivation in view of prevailing weather conditions and possible El Niño impacts.

The Agriculture Department said the programme will make certified seeds available to farmers on a single platform.

Farmers will be able to purchase quality seeds of various crops at affordable prices.

The department has made special arrangements to ensure adequate seed availability across the state.

Meanwhile, the fairs will offer seeds of pulse crops such as green gram, black gram and red gram.

Farmers can also purchase oilseed varieties, including sesame and groundnut.

Additionally, different millet and vegetable seeds will be available at the venues.

Moreover, farmers will receive guidance on alternative crops that require less water.

Experts will explain crop choices suitable for changing weather conditions and El Niño scenarios.

Agriculture Director Dr B. Gopi urged farmers to utilise the seed fairs and adopt scientific farming methods to achieve higher yields.

He said quality certified seed remains the foundation for improving agricultural productivity.
