Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu directed officials to begin first-phase financial assistance under Rajiv Yuva Vikasam from November 19. Eligible beneficiaries would receive up to Rs 1 lakh for self-employment initiatives under the scheme.
Bhatti issued the directions during a review of the SC and ST Welfare departments with senior officials at Praja Bhavan. The meeting covered welfare programmes for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, education, Gurukuls, scholarships, study circles and self-employment initiatives.
Bhatti said the government remained committed to providing the funds required for development in the education sector. He asked officials to ensure effective implementation of programmes intended for disadvantaged communities.
Rajiv Yuva Vikasam among key welfare priorities
Reviewing Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, Bhatti directed officials to take necessary steps to provide the first instalment of self-employment assistance from November 19. The financial assistance would extend up to Rs 1 lakh.
The Deputy Chief Minister also reviewed food arrangements at SC Gurukuls. He directed officials to accelerate the establishment of centralised mechanised kitchens for students. The kitchens were intended to ensure that students received quality, hygienic and nutritious food at residential educational institutions.
Bhatti also ordered a comprehensive study of former Gurukul students. The exercise would examine their educational, social and economic conditions after leaving the residential institutions.
Meanwhile, he directed officials to improve the quality of coaching offered through study circles. The objective was to secure better results for students receiving competitive examination coaching through these centres.
The Deputy Chief Minister also asked officials to examine the introduction of new courses in SC degree colleges. He said the proposed courses should align with the requirements of industries.
Bhatti said the government’s principal objective under “Indiramma Rajyam” was the welfare and educational advancement of poor and Bahujan communities. He also identified the creation of self-employment opportunities for young people as a key priority of the government.
