Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police invoked the PD Act against alleged rowdy sheeter Bojja Bhagyaraj, and Chilakalguda Police implemented the detention order on July 21. Police said the action followed his repeated involvement in serious criminal offences.
According to police, Bojja Bhagyaraj, son of Bojja Ravi, is a rowdy sheeter under the Chilakalguda Police Station limits. They alleged that he repeatedly committed violent offences, created fear among residents and threatened public order.
Police reviewed his criminal history before taking action. Accordingly, they found that 15 criminal cases were registered against him across the Hyderabad and Malkajgiri Police Commissionerates. The cases include attempt to murder, rioting, causing grievous injuries, criminal intimidation, offences under the POCSO Act and other serious crimes.
Earlier, authorities invoked the Preventive Detention Act against him on two occasions. They also bound him over under Section 128 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to maintain good behaviour. However, police alleged that he violated those conditions and again became involved in serious offences.
PD Act invoked after repeated alleged offences
Police said Bhagyaraj figured as an accused in three recent attempt-to-murder cases registered as Crime Nos. 128/2025, 502/2025 and 243/2026 at Chilakalguda Police Station. Although courts granted him conditional bail in two cases, police alleged that he violated the bail conditions and committed further offences. He is currently in judicial remand.
Subsequently, Hyderabad Police examined his alleged criminal activities, repeated violations of bail conditions and breach of the bind-over order. Therefore, the Police Commissioner invoked the PD Act to prevent further offences and safeguard public order.
Inspector V. Ramakrishna of Chilakalguda Police Station and his team prepared the preventive detention proposal. Meanwhile, ACP K. Shashank Reddy supervised the implementation of the detention order. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Secunderabad Zone) J. Narsaiah monitored the operation.
Hyderabad Police also appealed to citizens to report crimes, anti-social activities and incidents affecting law and order. In addition, they warned habitual offenders, rowdy sheeters, organised criminals and anti-social elements that any further criminal activity would invite stringent legal action, including detention under the PD Act.
