Hyderabad: BRS national secretary and former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of neglecting Telangana farmers over the Jurala water release issue. He alleged that farmers in Andhra Pradesh were cultivating crops with the confidence that the Telangana government would provide them with water despite the adverse impact of El Niño.
Niranjan Reddy visited the Jurala Project along with former MLAs Chittem Ram Mohan Reddy and Ala Venkateswara Reddy. Later, he addressed a press conference at Atmakur and made the allegations.
He criticised the government for not releasing water from the Jurala Project into the right and left main canals. According to him, the decision had caused hardship for farmers in Telangana.
Jurala water release draws criticism
Quoting the Chief Minister, Niranjan Reddy said, “Farmers in Andhra are sowing crops with the confidence that Revanth Reddy will ensure water reaches them by any means.”
Furthermore, he alleged that the Chief Minister showed greater concern for the people of Andhra Pradesh than for Telangana farmers. He claimed the failure to supply water through the Jurala canals reflected that approach.
The BRS leader made the remarks while criticising the government’s handling of irrigation water for farmers in the region.
