KTR targets Congress over Telangana finances

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a fresh attack on the Congress government over Telangana finances, alleging that the state’s economic position had deteriorated under its rule.

Speaking at a Meet the Press programme at the Somajiguda Press Club in Hyderabad, KTR said Telangana emerged as a leading state in development during the tenure of former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He asserted that no other state had recorded similar progress.

KTR alleged that Congress came to power by making promises it could not fulfil. He accused the government of failing to implement its six guarantees and several other commitments.

The BRS leader claimed the state’s revenue had declined over the past two years. He also criticised the government for spending heavily on publicity despite citing financial constraints.

KTR accused Congress of spreading misinformation about Telangana’s debt position. According to him, the BRS government borrowed around Rs 2.8 lakh crore during its 10-year tenure.

He alleged that the Congress government had borrowed nearly Rs 4 lakh crore in the last two-and-a-half years. He questioned how the borrowed funds were being utilised and accused the administration of setting records in borrowing.

KTR dismissed the government’s claims that it was repaying debts accumulated during the BRS regime. He described those assertions as misleading and maintained that the actual repayment figures were much lower than claimed.

The former minister also challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to a public discussion on the state’s debt and financial management.

Turning to the proposed Future City project, KTR claimed the land identified for the initiative had originally been acquired for Pharma City. He supported remarks made by senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on the issue.

KTR also questioned the government’s proposal to allot house sites for journalists in Future City. He suggested that authorities could instead provide land in areas such as Pet Basheerabad, Manchirevula and Budwel, where land was already available.

The BRS leader said the Congress government was misleading people on Telangana finances and the state’s debt burden. He reiterated that the government should disclose complete details on borrowings and expenditure.
