Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) defended Balka Suman over his recent remarks and questioned the criticism directed at the BRS leader.
Speaking at a Meet the Press programme in Hyderabad, KTR said Balka Suman made the comments by mistake. However, he added that there was no doubt the remarks were inappropriate.
The BRS leader also questioned why critics did not raise similar objections to statements made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He recalled instances in which the Chief Minister allegedly used aggressive language in political speeches.
KTR on Balka Suman and farm power meters
Meanwhile, KTR claimed Telangana was facing fresh challenges under the Congress government. He alleged that the Centre linked financial assistance to the installation of electricity meters for farm pump sets.
Recalling the previous BRS government’s stand, KTR said former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao opposed the proposal. According to him, KCR refused to install meters even at the cost of losing central funds.
The former minister further accused the Congress government of following the Centre’s directions. He alleged that the government joined the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to introduce power meters.
Additionally, KTR criticised the decision to create separate power distribution companies for farmers. He questioned the need for the move and asked who had demanded such entities.
According to the BRS leader, the new system could harm farmers’ interests. He also accused the government of creating confusion over free electricity for the agriculture sector.
Finally, KTR said the government must protect farmers and continue free power supply without conditions. He maintained that farmers should not face any additional burden because of policy changes.
