Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K.T. Rama Rao alleged that the delay in securing Metro phase-II approval reflected the Congress government’s inability to protect Telangana’s interests and advance key infrastructure projects.
In a statement on Monday, KTR criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over the Centre’s failure to clear the Hyderabad Metro Rail phase-II project. He claimed the delay highlighted what he described as administrative shortcomings and ineffective leadership.
Metro phase-II approval delay draws criticism
KTR alleged that the Chief Minister had made numerous visits to New Delhi without securing the required clearance for the project. According to him, several other states had received approvals for metro rail projects during the same period.
He cited projects in cities such as Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam while questioning the delay in Hyderabad. The BRS leader said the state government should explain why it had failed to obtain Metro phase-II approval despite repeated engagements with the Union government.
He argued that Hyderabad required rapid metro expansion to meet growing transportation demands.
Metro phase-II approval linked to Centre-state relations
KTR alleged that the Chief Minister had failed to effectively raise Telangana’s concerns before the Union government. Furthermore, he claimed that political considerations had prevented the state leadership from strongly questioning the Centre on the issue.
The BRS leader also accused the Congress government of attempting to shift responsibility for the delay onto the opposition. According to KTR, the focus should remain on securing Metro phase-II approval rather than engaging in political blame games. He further alleged that repeated visits to Delhi had not produced tangible benefits for Telangana.
Metro phase-II approval remains key demand
Demanding accountability, KTR urged the Chief Minister to explain the reasons behind the delay in obtaining approval for the metro expansion project. He said the people of Hyderabad deserved clarity on the status of the proposal and future plans for urban transport development.
Moreover, he questioned why approvals and financial support for major projects were not moving forward as expected. KTR also asserted that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao played the leading role in the successful execution of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The BRS leader maintained that securing Metro phase-II approval remained essential for the city’s future growth and transportation needs.
