Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and former minister Harish Rao rushed to the KCR farmhouse in Erravelli after Congress and BRS workers clashed over MLC Tatha Madhu’s remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
Meanwhile, tensions continued inside the Assembly over Monday’s developments. After receiving information about the confrontation near the farmhouse, the two BRS leaders left the House.
They travelled directly to Erravelli to discuss the developments with BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao. In addition, the leaders planned to review the controversy surrounding the Speaker.
They also intended to discuss the alleged conduct of police personnel towards women public representatives near the Assembly gate. Furthermore, the reported use of objectionable language during the Assembly-related incidents figured in the discussions.
Accordingly, KTR and Harish Rao were expected to seek KCR’s direction on the party’s next course of action.
KTR and Harish Rao reach farmhouse amid protests
Meanwhile, Congress SC department leaders launched a protest against Tatha Madhu’s remarks. They had announced a march towards the farmhouse and set out with 1,000 drums.
However, tension rose at Damarakunta in Markook mandal when BRS workers stopped the Congress leaders’ convoy. The confrontation soon turned into a clash between the two groups.
BRS workers allegedly pelted stones at vehicles belonging to Congress leaders. Subsequently, members of both groups engaged in a physical confrontation on the road.
As the situation worsened, police intervened. Authorities then imposed Section 144 around the farmhouse and its surrounding areas.
Police tighten security around Erravelli
Following the clash, police erected heavy barricades on routes through Venkatapur and the outskirts of Erravelli. As a result, vehicles could not move towards the farmhouse.
In addition, security personnel increased surveillance around the area. Hundreds of police personnel deployed around the farmhouse to prevent protesters from reaching the site.
Meanwhile, police maintained tight security in the surrounding areas. The restrictions followed the confrontation at Damarakunta.
The tension stemmed from the dispute over remarks allegedly made by Tatha Madhu against the Speaker. The controversy had already triggered unrest during the Assembly session.
