BC representation sought in graduate MLC seats

Hyderabad: National BC Dal president Dundra Kumara Swamy sought greater BC representation in the upcoming Legislative Council elections. He urged political parties to ensure stronger participation for backward classes and historically disadvantaged communities.

Kumara Swamy, who also heads the BC Reservation Coordination JAC, made the appeal at an OBC Atmeeya Sammelanam. The National BC Dal organised the meeting to discuss representation and social justice.

He urged political parties to consider a BC candidate for the Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ MLC constituency. Kumara Swamy said social justice should guide the allocation of Legislative Council seats.

The National BC Dal chief linked his demand to the long-standing social and political backwardness of weaker sections. He said political parties should consider representation while deciding candidates for key legislative constituencies.

Kumara Swamy also sought consideration of an SC candidate for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgnda Graduates’ MLC constituency. He said such representation would provide disadvantaged communities a stronger role in legislative institutions.

He further urged political parties to move beyond seeking electoral support from BC and SC communities. Instead, he called for their representation in institutions where legislative decisions are made.

BC representation linked to social justice

Kumara Swamy said political parties should broaden their approach to representation. He argued that communities should have a role not only as voters but also in institutions responsible for legislative decisions.

He described representation as an important measure of social justice. He also called for a wider discussion among political parties on equitable political representation.

The appeal came ahead of the upcoming Legislative Council elections for graduate constituencies. Kumara Swamy specifically highlighted the Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgnda constituencies.

National BC Dal Greater Hyderabad president Rajesh Yadav attended the meeting. Andhra Pradesh president Satyanarayana and other members of the organisation were also present.
