Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha demanded stronger Singareni workers welfare measures from the State government and Singareni management. She sought a 35% share of company profits for coal mine workers.
Kavitha led party activists in an attempt to lay siege to Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad. The protest focused on better welfare measures and employment opportunities for workers and their dependants.
She demanded that all workers who had applied before the medical board be declared medically unfit. Kavitha also urged management to hold medical board meetings twice every month.
The Telangana Rakshana Sena chief sought an early resolution to the issue concerning workers’ alias names. She said long-pending worker-related matters required prompt attention from the Singareni management.
Kavitha also demanded that vacant Junior Assistant posts be filled. In addition, she sought jobs for dependants whose appointments remained pending because of vigilance inquiries.
Housing was another major demand raised during the protest. Kavitha called for allotting two guntas of land to every worker under a “housing of one’s own” scheme.
She also sought fresh coal blocks for Singareni Collieries Company Limited. The demand formed part of her wider call for measures to strengthen employment and welfare opportunities for workers.
Singareni workers welfare demands include tax and wage relief
Kavitha demanded abolition of income tax for Singareni workers. She also urged the government and management to implement the High Power Committee’s recommendations on wages for contract workers.
The TRS president said Singareni workers had made a significant contribution to Telangana’s economy. She argued that their contribution should receive stronger recognition through welfare and employment measures.
Meanwhile, the demands covered several aspects of workers’ lives and employment. These included profit sharing, medical-board decisions, dependant appointments, housing, taxation and contract-worker wages.
Kavitha’s protest also sought action on vacancies and administrative issues affecting workers. She called for measures that would address both immediate grievances and longer-pending demands.
The demands were raised as part of the Telangana Rakshana Sena’s protest at Singareni Bhavan. Kavitha urged the State government and Singareni management to address the issues raised by the workers.
