Hyderabad: Police arrested seven BRS leaders in Vijayawada in connection with the KCR farmhouse purification incident at Erravalli in Siddipet district. Those arrested included a former sarpanch of Varadarajuru and six other leaders of the party.
The case involved the sprinkling of turmeric water at former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse. The act was carried out purportedly to “purify” the premises.
Police apprehended the seven leaders at a lodge in Vijayawada. According to reports, six of them had kept their mobile phones switched off while they were staying there. However, police traced their location after one member of the group switched on a mobile phone. Subsequently, officers reached the lodge and took all seven into custody.
KCR farmhouse purification case leads to judicial custody
The arrests in the KCR farmhouse purification case reportedly took place on Monday. After their arrest, police brought the seven accused from Vijayawada to Gajwel. Police then produced them before a magistrate. The court remanded all seven to 14 days of judicial custody. Subsequently, authorities shifted them to the Siddipet Sub-Jail.
The investigation followed a complaint lodged by Congress leaders over the incident. The complainants alleged that sprinkling turmeric water to “purify” the farmhouse had insulted the Dalit community.
Meanwhile, forensic teams visited the farmhouse premises at Erravalli as part of the investigation. They collected evidence from the site in connection with the case. Police continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of those arrested.
