Komatireddy seeks Centre nod for Telangana road projects

Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy sought Central clearance and funds for several Telangana road projects on Monday. He raised demands covering highways, bridges, elevated corridors, ropeways and regional connectivity.

Komatireddy met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during the two-day Chintan Shivir-2026. The meeting took place at the Statue of Unity complex in Ekta Nagar, Narmada district, Gujarat.

The two ministers had jointly inaugurated the Chintan Shivir-2026. Meanwhile, Komatireddy highlighted Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s focus on road infrastructure and inter-state connectivity.

The Minister thanked the Centre for its support through the Setu Bandhan and Central Road Infrastructure Fund schemes. He then submitted a list of infrastructure proposals requiring Central approval and financial assistance.

Komatireddy sought approval for a 6-km double-decker elevated corridor under the 2026–27 Annual Plan. He also urged the Centre to use a viaduct instead of an RE wall on the NH-65 LB Nagar–Malkapur section.

The proposed viaduct would allow integration with Phase-2 of the Miyapur–LB Nagar Metro Rail expansion. Komatireddy also sought faster financial and Cabinet clearances for the 161.5-km Northern RRR between Sangareddy and Choutuppal.

More than 90% of land acquisition awards for the Northern RRR have been completed, according to the source. NHAI tenders have also been floated for the project.

Telangana road projects include RRR, ropeways and CRIF works

Komatireddy urged the Centre to take up the Southern RRR on similar terms. He linked the proposal to the planned Bharat Future City and industrial clusters.

Separately, he sought an expedited Detailed Project Report for high-speed freight connectivity between the two Telugu states. The proposed route would connect Telangana’s planned dry port with access toward Bandar Port.

The Minister also requested ₹1,230 crore for five eco-friendly tourist and spiritual ropeways. The proposed ropeways would connect Yadadri, Hanuman Hill in Nalgonda, Nagarjuna Sagar, Ramagiri Fort in Peddapalli and Killa Ramalayam in Nizamabad.

In addition, Komatireddy sought an elevated corridor on NH-765 through the tiger reserve along the Hyderabad–Srisailam route. The proposal aims to protect wildlife ecology while improving access for pilgrims.

He further requested ₹1,227.75 crore for 33 CRIF road projects covering 511.68 km. The package also includes three major Railway Over/Under Bridges in Kothagudem, Sultanabad and Nalgonda for 2026–27.

Gadkari responded positively to the representations, according to the source. He assured Komatireddy that the Ministry would constructively evaluate the proposals to accelerate Telangana’s infrastructure development.
