Hyderabad: Former MP and Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has strongly objected to changes in the alignment of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. She sent a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, alleging that the revised plan unfairly shields lands owned by political leaders and wealthy landlords.
Kavitha says alignment shift targets small farmers
Kavitha stated that the project’s alignment has changed multiple times. Each revision, she said, has caused more land loss for small and marginal farmers while sparing politically connected landowners.
In Medak’s Reddipalli village, for example, officials are acquiring 56 acres from 57 farmers. However, nearby lands owned by prominent figures remain untouched, she said.
She also cited Thommidirekula village in Keshampet mandal of Ranga Reddy district. Here, over 1,550 small farmers cultivate 1,480 acres, most of which now fall within the proposed alignment.
Kavitha questioned the lack of balance in the plan. She noted that the RRR lies just 25 km from the Outer Ring Road (ORR) on the northern side, but stretches over 40 km away in the south. “This raises serious concerns about the project’s neutrality,” she wrote.
Jagruthi leader calls for full re-survey
Kavitha urged the Centre to order a complete re-survey of the RRR alignment. She demanded that all technical documents be published and consultations held with local communities and elected representatives.
She added that the distance between the ORR and RRR must be uniform. The project, she said, should be implemented in a transparent, scientific, and just manner that protects farmers’ interests.
