ECI global reputation defended by T-BJP chief amid Congress attack

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Monday accused Congress of trying to damage the ECI global reputation for political gain. He alleged that the party was also attempting to weaken India’s democratic institutions.

Speaking at a meeting of BJP state office-bearers in Hyderabad, Rao said Congress had failed to accept India’s electoral system. He claimed the country’s democratic process had earned recognition globally despite criticism from opposition leaders.

Rao accused Congress leaders of adopting what he called double standards over Electronic Voting Machines and the Election Commission. According to him, party leaders praised both when they won elections but questioned them after losing polls.

The Telangana BJP chief also targeted Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. He alleged that Congress was unwilling to accept an individual from an ordinary background becoming the country’s Prime Minister.

Rao also defended the ongoing voter-list verification exercise. He alleged that illegal immigrants had entered electoral rolls in the past by using fraudulent documents.

He said the verification process should ensure that only eligible Indian citizens remain on electoral rolls. Rao maintained that Indian citizens aged above 18 are entitled to vote irrespective of their religion.

The BJP leader then criticised the Telangana government over several election promises. He cited the Six Guarantees, fee reimbursement, Rythu Bharosa, pensions, teacher recruitment and employee promotions.

Rao alleged that the Congress government was focused on contracts and commissions while people continued to face difficulties. He also accused the government of failing to deliver on commitments made during the election campaign.

ECI global reputation and BJP’s Telangana campaign

Meanwhile, Rao criticised the Telangana government’s handling of attacks on Hindu traditions and temples. He alleged that the ruling party was using vote-bank politics and claimed there was a conspiracy behind recent temple attacks.

The BJP leader questioned the repeated description of accused persons as mentally unstable. He also alleged that Congress and BRS were pursuing political interests in cooperation with the Majlis.

Rao appealed to people to support the BJP as an alternative political force in Telangana. He said the party’s role extended beyond electoral politics to social service and nation-building.

Separately, he announced programmes under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan across Telangana. The Seva Jyoti Yatra and Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha will be held at all district headquarters on October 7.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Nitin Nabin are scheduled to address party cadres virtually after 10 am. The programmes will form part of the party’s planned activities at district headquarters.

Senior BJP leaders, district presidents and other state office-bearers attended Monday’s meeting. Rao’s remarks covered the Election Commission, voter-list verification, state government promises and the BJP’s organisational programme.
