Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao alleged that a Shamshabad government land scam worth nearly Rs 1,000 crore took place through illegal conversion of public land into private patta land.
Addressing a media conference at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Harish Rao accused the Congress government of failing to protect government assets.
He alleged that officials attempted to hand over 170 acres of government land in Peddashapur village of Shamshabad mandal to private individuals.
According to him, the disputed land falls between Survey Numbers 173 and 183.
Harish Rao stated that the Revenue Divisional Officer identified the land as government property.
He said the RDO instructed officials to include the land in the prohibited list under Section 22-A.
The former minister said the same details appeared in an affidavit submitted before the High Court on January 30, 2026.

Harish Rao further claimed that the Tahsildar confirmed on February 24, 2026 that the land belonged to the government.
However, he alleged that the same Tahsildar declared the land as private property on February 28, 2026.
“How did government land suddenly become private land within four days?” he questioned.
The BRS leader also alleged that contradictory reports from the RDO and Tahsildar still reached the High Court.
He questioned the role of senior officials, including the Collector and Advocate General, in clearing the matter.
Harish Rao claimed the government only transferred the MRO after media reports highlighted the issue.
He further alleged that Anti-Corruption Bureau officials initially tried to investigate the case but later withdrew under pressure.
According to him, officials entered the land details into Bhu Bharati records without mandatory RDO approvals.
He alleged that authorities completed the mutation process overnight.
He claimed officials illegally converted the entire 170 acres into private patta land.
Harish Rao demanded immediate suspension and dismissal of the Tahsildar involved in the issue.
He also sought restoration of the land into the prohibited list and demanded a SIT or CID inquiry into the alleged scam.
The former minister further called for investigation into the role of senior bureaucrats, CCLA officials and political leaders allegedly linked to the matter.
“If the government is truly transparent, it should immediately dismiss the Tahsildar and protect government land,” he said.
