Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to ensure panchayat staff salaries are paid on the first day of every month across Telangana. He said nearly 50,000 gram panchayat employees should receive salaries on time without delays.
The Chief Minister stated that panchayat workers must receive wages just like IAS officers receive monthly salaries regularly. Revanth Reddy reviewed Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department works with senior officials and issued several directions during the meeting.
The Chief Minister announced that the government would release Rs 50 crore every month specifically for payment of panchayat staff salaries. He also directed officials to ensure timely salary payments for outsourcing and contract employees working in all government departments.
Panchayat staff salaries and pension reforms reviewed
Revanth Reddy warned that the government would not tolerate even a one-day delay in salary payments to employees. The Chief Minister also instructed officials to restore provisions removed by the previous government regarding financial independence of gram panchayats.
He directed officials to amend Section 70(3) of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018. Under the proposed amendment, gram panchayats will deposit own-source revenue into bank accounts instead of treasury accounts.
Revanth Reddy also reviewed the pension distribution system and issued key directions to officials. He instructed authorities to replace the existing postal pension distribution system and directly deposit pensions into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure pensions reach only eligible beneficiaries. He also instructed authorities to regulate pension distribution based on voter ID cards, Aadhaar details and SEEEPC survey data.
Revanth Reddy further directed officials to give priority to sanctioning new pensions for eligible beneficiaries. Minister Seethakka, MP Vem Narender Reddy and senior Panchayat Raj Department officials attended the review meeting.
