Govt to build SHG federation buildings in every village, says Seethakka

Hyderabad: The State government on Wednesday decided to construct SHG federation buildings in every village to strengthen women-led institutions and boost rural women’s economic and social empowerment.

The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department issued orders to build each SHG federation building at a cost of ₹10 lakh. These buildings will serve as permanent centres for self-help groups and village-level federations.

As per the orders, the department has finalised a standard design on a 200-square-yard plot. Each building will have a minimum built-up area of 552 square feet to support meetings and SHG-related activities.

In a statement, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka said the decision marked a major step in strengthening women’s self-help groups at the grassroots.

She said women should move beyond limited group activities and play a larger role in self-employment and local decision-making. Dedicated SHG federation buildings in every village, she added, would support that transition.

Seethakka said the Congress government aimed to ensure dignity, security and self-confidence for women through strong institutional support. She added that the government would construct the SHG federation buildings across the State in a phased manner.
