Komatireddy launches ₹5 crore women-run petrol pump in Nalgonda

Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday laid the foundation for a ₹5 crore women-run petrol pump near SLBC Colony in Nalgonda. The facility is being developed under the Indira Mahila Shakti programme, in partnership with the District Women Federation and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

The Minister said that genuine social progress can only be achieved when women gain economic strength on par with men. He encouraged self-help groups (SHGs) to manage the pump as a successful cooperative venture.

Women-run petrol pump launched near Nalgonda medical college

The new petrol station is strategically located near the Nalgonda medical college, nursing college, integrated residential school, and highways leading to Hyderabad and Nagarjunasagar. Komatireddy added that the site would soon include EV charging stations, a cafeteria, and a supermarket.

He recalled his 2004 efforts as an MLA, during which he facilitated ₹15 crore in SHG loans for village-level women’s groups. Today, he said, the Congress government continues to prioritise women’s welfare through initiatives such as free bus travel, electricity, subsidised rice, and Indiramma housing.

The Minister also inaugurated a fish outlet at the same venue. In addition, he highlighted recent projects in the district. These include the adoption of the government medical college by AIG Hospitals, a new Glaucoma Centre at Kanagal PHC, and solar units in Aitipamula village—many of which were led by women.

Telangana SHGs gain ₹20,000 crore in loans: SERP CEO

SERP CEO Divya Devarajan said that women’s self-help groups in Telangana had received loans totaling ₹20,000 crore. These funds, she said, have enabled women to become financially independent and confident. She advised members to take full advantage of government schemes and focus on health and education. She also urged them to unite against domestic violence.

District Collector Ila Tripathi noted that more women are entering commercial and agricultural sectors. She said the newly launched pump is the third of its kind in the district, with three additional petrol stations already approved. IOCL General Manager Sudeep Rai and DRDA PD Shekhar Reddy also spoke at the event.
