DGP C.V. Anand reviews Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, calls for stronger AI-driven policing

Hyderabad: DGP C.V. Anand on Thursday reviewed the functioning of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau. He directed officials to strengthen cybercrime prevention, improve victim services and expand the use of artificial intelligence in policing.

During the visit, the DGP inspected the Cyber Lab, Security Operations Centre, Central Monitoring Unit, Social Media Unit, Child Protection Unit and Digital Forensic Unit. He also reviewed their technical capabilities and investigation methods.

Director Shikha Goel and senior officers briefed the DGP on cybercrime trends. They explained AI-based investigations, victim support services and future plans through a presentation.

Telangana Cyber Security Bureau expands AI-based services

Anand examined the AI-powered cyber call centre during a live demonstration. The system instantly responded to a victim’s complaint, collected key details and alerted the jurisdictional police station. He appreciated the initiative. He also directed officials to expand AI-enabled services.

Officials said cybercrime caused financial losses of ₹1,524 crore in Telangana during 2025. However, the losses declined by 20 percent compared with 2024. Cybercrime complaints also fell by 3 percent to 91,369.

Meanwhile, authorities increased the amount frozen under the Hold of Payments (POH) mechanism from ₹255 crore to ₹279 crore. The recovery rate also improved from 9 percent to 12 percent.

Officials said Telangana registered 21,639 cybercrime FIRs in 2025. That accounted for 44 percent of the 49,620 cybercrime FIRs registered across the country.

They further said cyber offences accounted for 21,639 of the State’s 86,177 major FIRs. These crimes caused losses of ₹1,524 crore. By comparison, other major crimes caused losses of ₹207 crore.

Anand said cyber fraud was financially ruining many families. He warned that investment scams, online trading frauds and digital financial crimes were rising rapidly. Therefore, he urged officers to adopt AI, data analytics and emerging technologies.

He also asked officials to upgrade technical systems regularly. This, he said, would improve Telangana’s standing in national cyber policing indicators. In addition, he said the government was reorganising specialised police units. He added that the bureau would receive additional manpower if required.

Finally, the DGP urged victims to call the 1930 cybercrime helpline immediately after a fraud. They can also file complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. He advised people not to share OTPs, passwords or banking details with strangers.
